The doors opened and Suzaku stepped into a large hall, full of people. At the end of a long aisle sat Princess Euphemia on a throne. As he walked towards her the nobles on either side of the aisle sneered at him, glancing his way just to look away with disgust.
"Even if he is an honoury Britannian, I don't think it's right."
"An Eleven..."
"I can't believe they are broadcasting it live."
"How did he win her favour I wonder?"
"Well even a Princess has needs..." Cruel laughter echos around the room as he gets closer to the dias.
The mutterings fade into stoney silence as he reaches the princess and knelt formally.
"Suzaku Kururugi. Will thou upon this day pledge thy fealty to Britannia and stand as a knight of the crown?"
"Yes, your highness."
"Does thou wish to abandon thyself and be sword and shield for the sake of the greater good?"
"Yes, your highness."
Suzaku drew the sword from his belt and held it out, tip pointing towards his heart as he offered it to the princess. She took it, serious and formal and he bowed his head. The sword touched each shoulder.
"I, Euphemia li Britannia do hereby dub thee sir Suzaku Kururugi in line with the history, decorum and honour of our great Empire." The sword was handed back to Suzaku and he sheathed it. Euphemia gestured with her arm, a grand gesture across the whole hall.
Suzaku rose and turned towards the sea of nobles. He was met with sneers once more and silence, a silence that seemed to stretch an eternity. Then finally, the sound of clapping. Lloyd was in the audience and he clapped, seemingly oblivious to the atmosphere. Suzaku kept his eyes low but looked to the side surprised as the knight overseeing the ceremony, stood on the stage, began to clap too.
At his gesture the rest of the nobles followed suit and soon the room was filled with the sound of applause.
