He was walking through a field, stumps of trees and branches were all that was left of any plant life and the few buildings he could see were reduced to rubble. The ground was churned up mud stained black with blood. Despite this chicadas chirped, an ever constant background noise. Suzaku was young, just a child in shorts and a t shirt with a tie. Beside him were the only two living people he could see, a boy around his age with black hair carrying a younger blonde girl on his back.

Around them lay the dead. Bodies sprawled in the mud, eyes staring unseeing to the sky. The smell of blood and rotting flesh was thick in the air. Suzaku's eyes flicked from side to side, looking at the bodies, noting the terror on their faces.

"Where are we going?" The little girl was asking. "Are we going to move to another place again?"

The black haired boy answered. "It's one of the Kururugi homes. This time it's the main house, okay?" Suzaku was only half listening to his companions as they walked. He stopped as he saw the body of a woman, a baby lying lifeless cradled in her arms. He glanced away but his eyes fixed on another family, a young girl sprawled next to a woman a destroyed teddy bear centimetres from her hand.

"Keep on walking, Suzaku." The boy sounded sterner than when he had talked to the little girl.

"But." Suzaku did not move, looking around at the dead once move.

"Keep on walking." The boy carrying the girl did not stop but a moment later the little girl spoke again.

"Where are we? It smells really bad here?"

"We're going by a garbage dump." This time the boy did pause and look back, his voice purposefully light "Right, Suzaku?"

Suzaku had not moved, his hands were clenched in fists and he stared at the ground shaking in rage. Tears pooled in his eyes.

The boy walked back towards him. The girls eyes were closed, had been closed this entire time and she spoke, sounding confused. "What's wrong Suzaku?" Her hand reached out to touch his face.

"I..." Suzaku looked up, "Nunnally?"

The girl was smiling, her hand still on his cheek. "My mother taught me that a warm touch is the best cure for teary eyes."

The memory fades.
